Time Lord Victorious: The Minds Of Magnox Review

A tale going in a direction I didn’t think the Time Lord Victorious series would.

Timeline wise it’s up for debate when this take place however it’s clear it’s post the first novel which, for myself, is automatically fascinating. Especially when the Doctor we’re following is the Tenth.

Jacob Dudman somehow gives the perfect Tenth impression whilst doing a great Ood impression as well. Juggling several voices so convincingly will make you swear there are multiple actors on this project when the reality is more of a one man band.

Brian the Ood is back which is a personal plus. We get a side story linking into his origin and desires separate and somewhat conjoined with his companion Mr. Ball. Hearing Brian point out that his thoughts are very much separate from Mr. Ball with said character acting more like a child is so intriguing to think about, and something this story delves into.

The Doctor’s story is, of course, the main course of this tale and it’s certainly captivating. Furthering the story of a Doctor who went that extra step he vowed never to do is something that sells itself but what makes his tale that much more interesting is when it takes place.

We’re at an unspecified point in the future where the Doctor and Brian are travelling together although Brian points out that the Doctor was fleeing until he came across Magnox, the planet with an answer for every question.

The question itself isn’t too hard to work out if you’ve kept up with the saga thus far but getting to that point is a fun journey, albeit not a fast one.

Regardless of the slower than wished pacing, the question is that of a moral decision, and that is what makes this truly fascinating.

The Doctor didn’t do what he did at the end of that novel without doubt and that alone gives us a nice path as to where the remainder of the story will go before linking back up to The End Of Time.

Knowing that the path won’t be straight one, and that there are still many questions left to answer, gives this arc the much needed boost for the few tales it has left.

My excitement has been restored and I can’t wait to move forwards to see the ever nearing final acts of this epic story!
