The Eighth Doctor Adventures: Doom Coalition 4 Review
Starting out with the weakest episode yet quickly kicks it up more than a few notches when with an excellent second episode onwards.
Call backs galore made me think this was originally some form of finally for all of these storylines that’ve involved the Eighth Doctor however there is enough here to form a finale to Doom Coalition overall.
The tale this time is joined throughout making it flow rather well. Unfortunately a familiar plot point rears it’s head in the final episode that writes the stakes to an all too predictable level with the main difference this time being the setting the circumstances happen in.
With that being said the actual ending is one that is likely to please fans of this lengthy 16ish hour tale.
Judging this as a finale and as a part in one bigger story is slightly bizarre as previous sets in the Doom Coalition have implanted something of a finale to each of their parts. Almost to make even the smaller stories fun stand-alone rides to some capacity. Here that notion is chucked out completely with not only references to previous parts of this story but to earlier Eighth Doctor adventures that may throw some new listeners.
What I’ll say is this acts as a great episode split into four parts, with characters and story points fully fleshed out and utilised by the end.
My main complaint is how long it took to get here.
With further four part stories ahead my attitude to listening to a potential 16 episode series of back and forths doesn’t sound too appealing but there’s always the chance I’ll be wrong and it’ll impress.
8/10
