Solo: A Star Wars Story Review

As I usually play the skeptic when it comes to casting choices I should probably start with Alden Ehrenreich as Han Solo.

Let’s make one thing clear. He’s not Harrison Ford’s replacement.

The way Ehrenreich portrayed Han was perfect in my eyes thanks to one reason. He wasn’t trying to play the older Han.

He did his take on a younger version of the character and I for one liked it.

Seeing Revenge Of The Sith kinda makes me feel worse for Chewbacca. After all Yoda refused his help and if he only accepted it Chewie wouldn’t have been turned into a slave and tortured.

There’s not too much to say about the plot really. I mean, it gets the job done and it really didn’t need to do anything else besides from be fun.

We have our space sequences, our fast chases, shoot outs and banter with the gang.

This is definitely a Star Wars film and whilst there’s nothing too memorable about it it’s certainly not a bad flick either. I see it like most festive Christmas films. They’re fine and do their job but you’re never inclined to remember or even bring them up unless your memory is jogged or prompted.

Seeing the Kessel Run was a treat along with how Han and Chewie became buds along with that bromance blossoming across the film.

Han and Lando’s relationship feels spot on to how it should be once they meet up in Empire Strikes Back as well.

Paul Bentley isn’t the best villain but I think a lot of that had to do with how little he’s in this film along with him being completely overshadowed by a guest cameo at the end that made me really happy to be a Clone Wars fan.

In short, I think this was a fun one off and I hope they do something with this Han on Disney+ at some point because a mini series might just be what he needs to get people talking again!
